Determining Volcanic Risk in Auckland

One of the children at work recently asked me ‘which mountain’ I lived near. I couldn’t help thinking of the maunga in a pepeha… and of course of Auckland’s 50 volcanoes, which are such a particular feature of Auckland… it got me thinking that our volcanoes could be used more fully to help children into a number of forms of literacy (geological and bicultural in particular).

Anyway, now I’m sensitive to information on volcanoes in Auckland and just found this:

About backyardbooks

This blog is a kind of electronic storage locker for ideas and quotes that inform my research... literary research into fiction for young adults (with a special focus on New Zealand fiction). Kiwis are producing amazing literature for younger readers, but it isn't getting the academic appreciation it deserves. I hope readers of this blog can make use of the material I gather and share by way of promoting our fiction. Cheers!
